The Panamanian International Marine University (UMIP) was founded in 2005 and focuses on port and maritime topics. It is regarded as one of Panama’s most affordable institutions.
The Faculty of Nautical Sciences, the Faculty of Marine Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime Transport, and the Faculty of Maritime Civil Engineering make up UMIP’s four faculties. There are 11 bachelor’s degree programs available.

2. Florida State University (FSU-Panama)
The Florida State University in Panama, sometimes known as FSU-Panama, is a Central American campus of Florida State University. It was founded in 1957, making it the country’s second-oldest university.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited all of FSU-degrees. Panama’s (SACS). They have 88 bachelor’s degree programs to choose from. Students can begin these programs on the Panama side and finish them at the Tallahassee main campus.
The good news is that overseas students will be able to do so at a fraction of the cost of attending FSU in the United States.
On the Panama campus, there are additional five bachelor’s degree programs that can be completed entirely. International Affairs, Computer Science, Information Studies, Environmental Studies, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies are among the subjects covered.

The Quality Leadership University (QLU) was founded in 1997 to educate young people who would contribute to the growth of the region.
The University of Louisville, Illinois State University, Florida International University, the University of Chile, Towson University, and the Polytechnic University of Madrid are among the universities with which this low-cost university in Panama has partnerships.
Students can continue their studies at one of these colleges and pay in-state tuition fees instead of international fees thanks to these arrangements. As a result, it is regarded as one of Panama’s low-cost institutions.
Studying in Panama on a budget — what the fees above actually mean
Tuition is only one line in the budget, and on its own it is a poor guide to whether you can afford to study in Panama. A country with low tuition and high living costs can end up more expensive than one with higher tuition and cheap accommodation. Work out the total annual cost before you compare anywhere.
How to check a tuition figure before you rely on it
Fee figures on any website — including this one — go out of date. Universities revise tuition annually, and governments change policy. Before you rely on a number:
- Open the university’s own website and find the fees page for international or non-national students. That is the only figure that counts.

Build a realistic total-cost budget

- Ask about fee instalments. Many institutions allow termly payment, which matters when you are converting naira.
- Check student work rights on your visa — how many hours, and whether you may work at all. Never plan a budget that depends on illegal work.
- Compare smaller cities. Rent outside the capital is often the single biggest saving available.
A warning about agents
No agent can guarantee you admission or a visa. If someone promises either in exchange for money, walk away. Legitimate agents are paid by institutions, publish their registration details, and will never ask you to send money to a personal account.
