Why Plus Size Women Are Hated?

Why We Need To  Talk About It

When I started Asteem I started it to help people like me all around the world. Rather that was through my religion, relationship life, my mental health stories, and even topics on what helped me become a better me.

Today we are going to hit on the journey of being a plus size woman and how media played a big part in me wanting to change my body at some point in my life.

Growing up I did not see many girls like me. There were always skinny chicks, fat butt, and big lifted breast. My barbies were skinny, my princesses were skinny and the girls in the music videos were always skinny. Still to this day I see all of that. Now I am not saying that media has not shed more light on us as women, BUT we never get the leading roles and when we do it’s people making fun of us in some way.

And even in shows like This is Us and Riverdale (we will talk about this later) it is not enough to satisfy our needs. It is as if Hollywood despises big women. Up until a few years ago we did not even have a plus size hip-hop/ R&B artist of this era-

Today’s World

Lizzo has paved the way for us! But it still hurts to watch a music video full of skinny girls and when they do show a big girl it’s of her man checking out the skinny girls. As if our Plus size girls can not find love, as if we need to lose weight to have someone.

I love how Phat Girlz (you know the one with Mo’Nique) showcased how it really is for our Plus size Queens and it did not get the attention that it deserved.

How in the world can Big Momma’s House (2000) and Norbit (2007) who are loud mouth people women who are stemmed as “ghetto” and is a man dressed up as a woman gets more attention; then a movie that is about a plus size woman and her battles?

Netflix (Yeah I am really starting to give the side eye to them) IS the biggest instigator of this issue by supporting programs like Riverdale and Insatiable (2018) where plus size women are either cast as the weird side character, (as we see with Ethel Muggs on Riverdale) or can’t achieve their goals until they have lost weight (as with Patty Bladell on Insatiable).

And what really adds insult to our intelligence they casted Debbie Ryan! Debbie FREAKIN RYAN! The most skinniest girl there is, and made her put on a fat suit.

The program sends the message that we as plus size women have no place in Hollywood and therefore society.

Taking a Stand

Therefore we Plus size girls should just throw the WHOLE Hollywood away and make our own! We need to do things.

As a Plus Size Woman myself I have found it to be very hard to live in this society. That is why I started my own, my brand, to spread love and awareness to all.

And that’s what all plus size women need to do. Bite back if we all stand together and make our own we will be very powerful than alone. Take over the industry, Watch how things change!
