IIS Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2022

The UC Berkeley Institute of International Studies (IIS) is offering a series of merit grants worth up to $2000 each to assist undergraduate research in any area of international studies.

The deadline for applications is November.

All countries are eligible.

International Studies and other related subjects are eligible fields of study.

The Award’s Details: The Undergraduate Merit Scholarship at the Institute of International Studies (IIS) encourages undergraduate research in any field of international studies. Independent research, research in conjunction with an honors thesis, and research while studying abroad are all possibilities.

IIS Junior Scholars will be the name given to the scholarship awardees. Junior Scholars must submit a four-page study summary and attend the IIS Junior Scholars Conference in May 2017 after finishing their research projects. Junior Scholars will present their work during the conference in the form of a poster.

Eligibility:

Open to any UC Berkeley junior or senior who has completed at least one semester of study in residence at Berkeley and has a minimum 3.5 GPA.
All majors are welcome to apply, and they are encouraged to do so.

Scholarship Value: Merit scholarships will be worth up to $2000 apiece, with an additional $1000 prize for the best research summary.

How to Apply:

Candidates must submit a one-page research proposal that includes the following information:

Why is it significant to the field of study;
What is the research question;
Qualifications for conducting the research (e.g., related previous or planned coursework, languages, etc. );
A research plan is in its early stages.

In addition, an unofficial transcript and one letter of recommendation from a GSI or faculty member must be included with the application.
