Each year, the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) and Global Partners in Care (GPIC) in the United States offer a limited number of competitive scholarships to nurses and social workers interested in palliative care training.
Nurses and social workers have a vital role in providing holistic palliative care services, according to the APCA and GPIC. Despite this, inadequate palliative care training for nurses and social workers in pre-service (undergraduate) programs, a lack of clear career pathways for those interested in specializing in palliative care, and a lack of recognition of palliative care qualifications by local ministries of health and education continue to be obstacles.
The Palliative Care Education Scholarship Fund for Nurses and Social Workers seeks to give nurses and social workers who work in palliative care or who want to lead the development of such services in their communities the opportunity to get specialized training.
In Africa, palliative care is becoming more popular, and nurses and social workers often feel unable to deal with the complexities it entails.
This Fund’s training opportunities are expected to improve the skills, knowledge, attitudes, values, methodologies, and sensibilities needed to engage effectively with patients, families, health care providers, and the community in palliative care.
The amount and term of the scholarship may vary depending on the course of study, but it will not exceed $2,000.
Duration: The length of the program will vary based on the type of study you choose, whether it’s a formal course or hands-on learning at a hospice.

3. To be considered for a scholarship, you must have already been accepted in to a program of study.
4. Have a current nursing or social work license, if applicable.
5. Be able to get full support from your employer to complete the course.

7. able to fill out the application in a legible manner.
8. In support of future fundraising for the scholarship fund, I am willing to send a thank you letter, video testimonial, or Zoom interview with GPIC and APCA.
9. Please note that applicants in their final year of study may be given priority.
1. Palliative care studies at the diploma, degree, or master’s level. Those in their final year of study will be given priority for degree and master’s level studies.
2. Clinical fellowships/experiential learning is another option for social workers.
