Important clarification (August 2026): a large number of websites currently claim that “NHIS Recruitment 2026/2027 has commenced” and direct applicants to www.nhis.gov.ng. We checked the official source. Two things you need to know before you apply anywhere or pay anyone.
1. NHIS no longer exists under that name
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was replaced by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) under the National Health Insurance Act, signed into law on 19 May 2022. That Act repealed the earlier National Health Insurance Scheme Act.
So if a website is advertising “NHIS recruitment” as though NHIS is still an operating agency recruiting under that name, that is already a signal to slow down. The correct body is the NHIA, and its official website is nhia.gov.ng.
2. There is no recruitment portal on the official NHIA website
We reviewed the official NHIA website in August 2026. Its navigation covers About, Programmes, Stakeholders, Media and Get Enrolled. There is no Careers, Jobs or Recruitment section, and no application portal.
This matters because several third-party sites state confidently that applications are open and provide “portals” to apply through. Those are not official NHIA channels.
What this means for you
- Do not pay anyone for an NHIS or NHIA application form, shortlisting, or “guaranteed placement.” Legitimate Nigerian federal recruitment is free.
- Do not submit personal documents to unofficial “recruitment portals.” You are handing your ID, certificates and personal data to an unknown party.
- Treat “recruitment ongoing” claims with suspicion unless they link to an official gov.ng announcement.
How federal recruitment in Nigeria actually gets announced
When a federal agency recruits, the announcement generally appears through official channels such as:
- The agency’s own gov.ng website
- The Federal Civil Service Commission, which handles recruitment into many federal MDAs
- Formal notices published in national newspapers
- The agency’s verified social media accounts
NHIA’s verified channels are linked from nhia.gov.ng and include its official Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts. Its general enquiry address is info@nhia.gov.ng.
Who NHIA typically needs
When health insurance bodies do recruit, the roles usually sought include medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses and midwives, medical laboratory scientists, health information officers, and administrative, finance and ICT staff across zonal and state offices. Preparing for these roles is sensible — but only apply when an official advert exists.
How to stay ready and verify properly
- Bookmark the official site at nhia.gov.ng and check it directly rather than relying on aggregator websites.
- Follow NHIA’s verified social accounts for genuine announcements.
- Keep your documents current — degree certificate, NYSC discharge certificate, professional licence where relevant, and a valid ID.
- Register on the Federal Civil Service Commission portal if you are targeting federal roles generally, since many MDA vacancies are advertised there.
- Verify before you act. If a site claims recruitment is open, look for a corresponding announcement on the agency’s own gov.ng domain. If there isn’t one, there is no recruitment.
