List of Universities in Mauritania

The public schools are free to attend in Mauritania. However, the cost of books and other supplies is rather high for students.

Poor national infrastructure, weak curricula, repetition rates, and high dropout rates are some of the issues plaguing the high education system in this country.

A quarter of young people do not attend high school; instead, they prefer to labor at home or in low-paying jobs to help support their families. The distance to the school prevents roughly 22% of residents of extremely rural areas from attending school.

In the meantime, there are 11 colleges, 7 public universities, and 4 private universities. There are currently more than 16,000 foreign students.
