How To Recall An Email In Outlook
Perhaps, you sent an impulsive email to the wrong person, or you sent a working mail, without attaching the necessary file.
If you desire to reverse such mail, then thank goodness. But this is only possible provided you are using an Outlook email.
This is being made possible because the email has a built-in solution, for this type of case. You can reverse and stop a sent email from a recipient who has already received the mail. A stepwise process on how to recall an email in Outlook is given below.
Step1: Open your email app, navigate to the sent items folder, and double-click on the mail you want to recall.
Step2: Tap on the message tab which is on the tool icon to make it active. After this has been done, navigate to the more icon, and click on more actions.
Step3: On the drop-down list, click on the Recall this message option
Step4: Two options will come up in a pop-up window. The two options are Delete Unread Copies of This Message or Delete Unread Copies and Replace With a New Message. Choose one of the two options to accomplish your task.
You will be notified, once the task becomes successful or fails. Right-click on the Ok Button to proceed.
If the message gets deleted, congratulations! If you aim to replace the message, proceed to step 5.
Step 5: If you wish to create a new mail as a replacement for the old one. Outlook will open an option for you to create a replacement.
However, please bear in mind, that creating a replacement doesn’t automatically delete the old one. It will only get deleted permanently if the receiver hasn’t viewed the old mail. This is why you should act as fast as possible. Or you add urgent at the headline of the new mail. Continue here for a lengthier explanation Microsoft also states the recipient might get notified of a recalled message that gets deleted.
Why Email Recall Doesn’t Always Work.
Starting the process doesn’t always guarantee success. Considering the vastness of internet speed, that mistaken email would have already been read, unless you live in an area where internet connection is poor. However, other factors can complicate the issue.
- Opened messages: If the receiver has already opened the mail, it can’t be recalled any longer.
- Public folder: If your mail is being sent or stored in a public folder and already viewed by someone, you can’t recall it.
- Other Email Client: This function only works for Outlook only. If perhaps the mail is been sent to a Gmail user, it can’t be recalled
