Brigham Young University(BYU) anticipates awarding approximately one-fourth of the new incoming freshmen students an academic scholarship. Prospective new freshmen are eligible to apply for undergraduate scholarships beginning with the term/semester they are admitted to.
Freshman scholarships are determined based on the student’s unweighted high school GPA and the ACT/SAT score submitted with the admissions application by the appropriate deadline. Students are ranked and scholarships awarded accordingly.
**Students who submit an ACT/SAT score by the priority deadline and later receive a higher score after submitting the application must withdraw the admissions application and resubmit it with the higher ACT/SAT score by the December 16 deadline. Students who withdraw and resubmit their application will lose their priority application status.**
In the past, we have posted the academic cutoffs for incoming freshmen. This practice has been discontinued as it is too difficult to predict the academic performance and ACT/SAT scores of the incoming freshmen class.
BYU scholarships are for current students or those applying for admission. We encourage all students to complete the online scholarship application, regardless of their circumstances. To be considered for academic, need-based, and private awards, complete the ‘Period’ section and the first three optional sections (Personal, Essays, and Need).
Additional sections of the application are for more specific awards and for each you complete you will be considered.
You must apply for scholarships on or before posted deadlines, even if you have not yet been admitted to the university. Your application for scholarships will be processed once you are admitted.
