Bukola Elemide popularly known professionally world wide as “Asa” was born on the 17th of September, 1982 in Paris, France. She was born to a Nigerian parents in France who were studying and working before they eventually relocated back to Nigeria when she was just two years old.
Her origin can be traced to Itoku, Abeokuta south local government area, Ogun state, Nigeria. Asa was raised in Lagos state, Nigeria. She had her primary and secondary school education in Lagos state and when she was 18 years old she moved back to Paris where she started her artistic journey.
According to her, she grew interest in music from the collection of great music her father gathered for his works as a cinematographer. Then in 2004, Asa manager and friend introduced her to Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo who later produced her first song titled “Asa”. Her first album got her so many recognition and awards and a large quantity of copies was sold all over.
Asa then went ahead to release her second album but before that time she had already signed with Naive Record label. Just like the first album, it topped several music chart across the world and her fame grew so fast. She always add a pinch at least of culture to her music and that also brought the uniqueness in her song.
Asa is an international successful singer, songwriter, stage performer and a recording artist. She is very exposed in terms of music and maintains her genre compared to other Nigerian female musicians. She is considered the richest Nigerian female musicians and very influential too.
