General entry requirements
Requirements are confirmed in each official advert, but NAF airmen and airwomen recruitment has typically required:
- Nigerian citizenship by birth
- Applicants to be medically, physically and psychologically fit
- Minimum of five credits including English and Mathematics in not more than two sittings (WAEC, NECO or equivalent) for non-tradesmen entry
- Relevant trade test certificates, OND, NCE or equivalent for tradesmen and specialist entry
- Valid birth certificate or declaration of age
- Certificate of state of origin signed by the applicant’s local government chairman or secretary
- Applicants to be free of criminal convictions
- Age and height requirements as specified in the advert — these differ between entry categories
Always confirm exact age limits, height requirements and accepted qualifications against the official advert for the specific cycle. They change between intakes.
How the recruitment process works
- Online application. NAF publishes guidelines and opens its portal at airforce.mil.ng/apply-now. Applications are submitted free of charge online.
- Screening of applications. Candidates who meet the published criteria are shortlisted.
- Aptitude test. Shortlisted applicants sit a nationwide computer-based aptitude test. In the 2025 exercise this took place in December 2025 with more than 20,000 participants.
- Zonal screening. Successful candidates attend physical, medical and documentation screening at designated centres.
- Final selection and training. Selected candidates are invited for the Basic Military Training Course.
Documents to prepare in advance
- WAEC, NECO or equivalent certificate or statement of result
- Birth certificate or declaration of age
- Certificate of state of origin
- Local government identification letter
- Trade test, OND, NCE or degree certificate where applying as a tradesman or specialist
- Recent passport photographs
- Valid means of identification
Assembling these takes time in Nigeria. Applicants regularly miss deadlines waiting on a certificate of state of origin or a replacement WAEC result, so start early.
Avoid recruitment fraud
- NAF applications are free. Anyone asking for money to process your application, shortlist you or guarantee selection is defrauding you.
- Apply only through airforce.mil.ng. Third-party “portals” are not official.
- No agent, officer or middleman can secure your selection. Claims otherwise are fraudulent.
- Be wary of WhatsApp and Telegram groups claiming to offer inside access to NAF recruitment.
How to prepare while waiting for the next intake
- Work on physical fitness now. Physical screening eliminates a significant number of candidates. Running, endurance and general conditioning matter.
- Practise aptitude tests. The computer-based test covers English, mathematics, general knowledge and reasoning.
- Sort your documents. Especially the certificate of state of origin and any missing results.
- Check the official site directly rather than trusting social media claims that recruitment has opened.
