Omawumi Megbele popularly known professionally by the stage name “Omawumi” was born on the 13th of April 1982 in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. She is a Lawyer, Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She originates from Itsekiri ethnic group and is the 12th born from 15 children born by their parents. She was born and raised by her mother Mrs. Aya Megbele and her father, Chief Dr. Frank.
She started her education as she enrolled in Nana primary school and then went further with her secondary school education as she attended the College of Education Demonstration secondary school in Warri, Delta state. After completing her secondary school education, Omawumi went further in education as she put into Ambrose Ali University in Edo state where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
Despite her love and interest in music, Omawumi was not known until 2007 when she was inspired by her family audition for the 2007 Idol West Africa. She was selected to be among the best and most talented vocalists and she eventually won as the first runner-up in the competition.
In 2009, Omawumi released her first album titled “Wonder Woman” which was a huge hit as it was accepted across the country. Following the success of the first album, she released the second album. Her songs are always educating, and inspiring and touch most of the problems faced especially in our society in Africa.
