The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that candidates who were unable to write their senior schools’ certificate examination (2020 SSCE) due to the EndSARS protests last year will be afforded another opportunity to do so between February 1 to March 3.
The announcement was made by NECO’s registrar, Prof Godswill Obioma, on Wednesday, January 13 in Minna.
He disclosed via Twitter that a total of 233,000 candidates failed to write the NECO 2020 SSCE due to the protests.
According to Vanguard, Obioma gave the lists of states affected by the protest to include:
1. Abia
2.Enugu
3. Edo
4. River
5. Ondo
6. Ekiti
7. Osun
8. Lagos
9. Oyo
10. Kano
11. Abuja
12 Ogun
He explained that the results of the affected candidates will be pending until supplementary exams are conducted for the papers missed.
Obioma noted that the special arrangements will be at no extra cost to the affected candidates.
The exam body also released the 2020 SSCE results. It said there was a 2 % increase of candidates that made five credits in the examination.
NECO disclosed that it has derecognized 12 schools for malpractice and massive cheating during the conduct of the examination.
In another news, the deadline for the registration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, 2021 is now January 29.
