All formal education gained after secondary school is referred to as higher education.

Higher education is anticipated to play a key role in the new system’s achievement of its goals, including the rapid development of literacy in Sierra Leone and the expansion of educational possibilities for women and girls.

Higher education is also anticipated to support the incorporation of new disciplines like indigenous languages and Sierra Leone studies that improve a correct and favorable understanding of Sierra Leone.
