In Delta State, Nigeria, the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), was established in March 2007. The first college of its sort to be founded in Africa is FUPRE, which began enrolling undergraduate students in 2008. It is destined to become the top international institution of choice.
The Federal Government of Nigeria took the initiative to create a specialized university in the Niger Delta to generate a workforce and expertise for the oil and gas industry at the middle and upper levels. As a result of such effort, this institution was established. The Federal Institution of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) is the sixth petroleum institution globally and the first in Africa.
