The Academic Staff Union of Universities has criticized the Federal Government’s handling of its request, as well as its nonchalant attitude regarding the ongoing strike.
The ASUU rollover strike is in its ninth week, and it will end in two weeks.
Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige recommended the union meet with the Benimi Briggs Committee last week on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today,’ saying that the choice to end ASUU’s strike could only be made possible by the union.
ASUU’s demands include the release of university revitalization money, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, the release of earned allowances for university academics, and the implementation of the UTAS payment portal for releasing of university lecturers’ wages and allowances.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions have also decided to extend their strike for another month.
