Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly and professionally known as “D’banj” was born into the family of Daniel Duro Oyebanjo on the 9th of June, 1980 in Zaria, Northern part of Nigeria. His father was a military man and his mother, was a businesswoman in Nigeria.
D’banj enrolled in the Nigerian military after completing his secondary school education using his father’s influence and then proceeded to Lagos state university to study mechanical engineering. He later dropped out after several strikes by the Lagos State University and moved to the UK to further his studies which he later quit to pursue a music career.
D’banj started his musical career by playing his late elder brother’s harmonica who had died in a plane crash at age 17. To keep the memory of his late brother alive, D’banj was seen playing the harmonica.
When D’banj moved to the UK in 2001 alongside his dad to further his education, he met Don jazzy and they became friends. Then Don jazzy was an upcoming record producer and an aspiring songwriter. His hangouts with him made his interest in music greater as he got signed by Don Jazzy and released his first debut album in 2005.
D’banj has been nominated for several prestigious awards about 87 times and has gracefully managed to successfully win 29 times. He is considered to be one of the most richest and influential music artists in Nigeria.
